Rosie O'Donnell mocks Asians
You can read the full story here, but in a nutshell, Rosie O'Donnell did what a lot of ignorant, no-talent asshats do when they make lame attempts to "imitate" Asians: the whole "ching-chong, ching-chong" routine. Only she made an idiot out of herself on (sigh) The View, a show which is no stranger to controversy.
Rosie says she was making a joke, and that lots of people are offended when she imitates her Southern in-laws. I've seen her imitate her Southern in-laws and it's not the Southern drawl she uses when she imitates them that offends people, it's that she shares intimate details of private conversations that make me cringe. Also, a Southern accent (and speaking English) is not the same thing as mocking Asians with made-up words and the same old tired-ass joke.
Way to set an example for your children, by the way. Not only do you routinely insult their grandparents, but now you're showing your ignorance to boot.
Rosie, explain it away however you want if it makes you feel better, but you are an asshole.
P.S. I copied this post and emailed it to Barbara Walters.

Stefania, thank you so much for posting this.
You can watch the original clip here.
Personally, it really pisses me off that people still do this and think that it's ok. Even following the whole Michael Richards thing, it seems like this story isn't drawing that much attention.

rosie odonnell's actions prove she's a hypocrite . . . she demands understanding and tolerance for homosexuals and then does something like this?!
i hate it when people crack this joke, too. usually i ask them why they would admit to butt-f**king their uncle's sheep in ___ language and wow, i didn't know that about them . .. ignorant buttheads.
and thanks for writing babs. how do i do it too?

you have no idea how many times this has happened on French television and people said nothing. it makes me so frustrated and sad.

Rosie is ignorant, but the audience and other panel members sound just as bad. From the clip, sounds like they're all lapping it up. It's amazing that the View which both an Asian American and an African American on its panel just a few years ago, is now a place where someone could make such a blatantly racist remark without any of the other panel members or audience calling them on it. It's no wonder their numbers are down.

I wrote to Barbara Walters, too. Thanks for the link, Stefania. I normally like Rosie, but this was just too stupid for words. Her publicist's reaction was, "Some people just don't get her humor" as if she is so esoteric that it went right over our heads. What she doesn't seem to get is that it is just not funny.
I stopped watching "The View" a few years ago when Star Jones said that God was watching out for her by not having the tsunami hit the Maldives while she was on her honeymoon, you know, because the hundreds of thousands Asian people who died were not as worthy of God's attention as one D-list celebrity. I didn't think that anyone could have her head so far up her own ass as that woman. Time to de-Tivo it again.

(Thank you Stefania for this post - I've been meaning to do a post but got side-tracked by in-laws saga)
Apparently she claims that she does many "accents" - since when is "ching chong" an accent?? I've been giving her the benefit of the doubt - thought she was a hack when I first noticed her as Madonna's lapdog but, since I support a lot of her politics, I thought she couldn't be that bad. It's absolutely hideous that she and/or her 'peeps' are lashing back at the Asian community saying that we don't have a sense of humor.
As I don't find homophobic 'jokes' humorous, I don't find "ching chong" jokes humorous either. Rosie, "ching chong" is not an accent - too bad I don't watch vapid shit like The View; otherwise I could have threatened to take away my viewship. Not that I think Baba Wawa cares, I think I will write her an e-mail as well.

This is very disappointing and it really aggravates me. Growing up in an all white area, i had to endure little boys yelling ching chong ching chong chong at me. It left wounds and tried to be understanding because they were children and didn't know better. However, Rosie is an adult. It's very disheartening.
How is that an accent? It just goes to show how ignorant and closed minded Rosie is. I wonder what Lisa Ling would say?

Ugh... the pseudo apology just made me more offended - she made light of the incident, that she was doing some Asian/Yiddish accent (get it through your thick head, Rosie, ching chong is NOT an accent, you ignoramus!) but sorry if people were hurt (NOT "I made a mistake") but may do it again. WHAT? That's it - the producers of The View must be a bunch of assholes to leave it at that.

While living in NYC I met Rosie twice at childrens events. I didnt really chat with her but was introduced. She seemed much quieter than on TV and was gracious and not too full of herself. Her recent performance was in very poor taste but everyone has lapses and makes mistakes. Judge her by how she appologizes and by her future actions. I'm not defending her since she may ultimately disappoint but lets watch and wait.

Sfdad, she "apologized." Another one of those "I'm sorry Asians are so sensitive" deals. She sucks.

what a f***ing b**ch!She needs to get a life.Asian accent?Ching chong crap isn't an accent, stupid. That means that I can call you a "sala" and claim that it's just a Hindi accent.Or call you a "chiksho" and say that it's just a Japanese accent.Wow,how do you feel about that?Kaesaekki!
She's just jealous that most Asian-Americans are wealthier, more intelligent,good-looking, and educated than her.Geez.
