It's a New Week . . . Kimchi Mamas WTF of the Week
Mother Goose and Grimm is was one of my favorite comics . . . imagine my disappointment this morning when I saw this.
It's still kind of early for me, I've only had one cup of coffee (and a mouthful of it is splattered over the screen) and I'm still a little tired from last night's shenanigans . . . but really, WTF?!
-Angie in Texas is sometimes a bitch.

WTF!

OMG, is that guy just STUPID??? After everything that happened with the basketball team from spain, he thought it would be a good idea to do a comic strip like this????

Disgusting. I'm a sansei mom, & I still tell my kids how this stupid little neighbor boy told me & my brother that his parents said he couldn't play with us because we were YELLOW. That was 50 years ago, but seeing any of this anti-Asian crap is like pouring salt in a wound. Here is a link to Gawker's followup on the brain dead spanish b-ball team. It's about time the IOC sanctions spain. They can't condone or excuse any show of racism.
Hang tough, KIMCHI MAMAS!

Oh wait! The controversy around Spain thickens!
Spain's Tennis Team does slanty eye too!
Where is the best quality of sports, the sportsmanship?

I hit this the same time that b.q. did.
I love the Olympics, with a good chunk of emotion. 12 years ago, I was one of two Native American Youth Ambassadors chosen to represent the USA at the Olympic International Youth Camp at the 1996 Atlanta games.
We were a diverse group of 16 teenagers amongst many at OYC.
"Citius, Altius, Fortius."
"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph, but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered, but to have fought well."
It is not enough to be stronger, higher, faster, not to just focus on the struggle, but what fires it, one's heart. Part of it, to me is the Olympic spirit, which these pictures of Spain athletes, show clearly lacking.
Good fun? Humor? The comic *possibly* can be interpreted on how far North Korea is as a communist state, and how similiar it is to China.
I hope, that with the games being in China, improvements follow with human rights and quality of life, the waves reaching the shore of North Korea. One can dream.

Wow...just wow. I'm just an average white girl but I'm always shocked. I guess I do a good job of convincing myself that the world is mostly an equal opportunity place. :(

That's just not funny at all.

Ugh. Just... no. I am looking for a feedback link on that comic site now. WTF.

I agree that the Mother Goose & Grimm comic strip is in poor taste, but am missing what connection it may have to Korea or racism. It just seems anti-Christian to me. I am not properly caffeinated today?

Twizzle, I was confused too but the url is the main page so the comic strip changes as new ones are posted. I'm pretty sure the one that Angie in Texas was referring to is this one.
This comic was sickening. I cannot believe anyone would think this is funny.

whoops! sorry about the link . . . thank you, kannadian. the link does indeed take you to the daily comic - please refer to the one dated 8/17/08.

Very few things surprise me anymore. It's as if some people are completely at a loss as to how to relate to Asians, besides resorting to the same tired old stereotypes. I'm curious as to what triggered this comic. Did something happen with North Korea this last week? Not that that is any excuse, but I'm confused as to why this comic came about when it did. I have a feeling that for many people in the Western media, when they have nothing else to talk about, they decide to pull something out of a bag of Asian jokes. Very sad.

OKAY KIMCHI MAMAS...
A protest unspoken is never heard. There is a contact for feedback on the Mother Goose & Grimm comic site. I don't know if mike peters actually sees the comments, but it's worth a try. There is power in numbers; speak from a position of power!

Yeah, I saw that stupid comic, too. No one else in the room could understand why I was pissed!

That cartoon was in very bad taste. Thanks for posting the link and giving out an email for people to express how they feel. I will definitely write to them to let them know.
