I would like to see everyone I meet (or who read me) promise me that they would spend five minutes in meditative thought on the scourge of dictatorship in our present day and age. Because that's what's happening in North Korea (the disappeared, Ling & Lee, and about the whole regime), in China (internet blocking, Tibet, and much more), in Iran (unrest), and everywhere it's cropping up. I would like to see some other forms of solidarity than just turning our icons green on Twitter.
I think people underestimate the power of our global awareness. Spend five minutes thinking about how things might be changed. If we all just THOUGHT SERIOUSLY about it, I think situations and solutions would come to light. There has never been a better time to come out of our complacency.
Ok, down from my soapbox.

I'm going to be traveling through SFO in a few weeks . . . any favorite places to eat?!
C'mon SF's! You're always talking about how much great food you have - time to share!

@Angie: Brother's Korean BBQ, I think that's what it's called. In Korean it's Hyung-jae Kalbi. Not so sure on how the Hyung-jae is spelled though. What's your occasion for flying through this neck of the woods?

@ Karen: the fiance and I are taking a little mini-vacay/break from the wedding prep while my kids are with their g-parents.
we'll be riding a touring bmw from SF, through northern cal to the oregon border and then back to SF. then a couple of days of wining and dining before we come back to HOT TX (and the stress of 'closing' his apartment, making wedding arrangements and a variety of other things that together are called "life"). =) but i wouldn't have it any other way! =D

@Angie: Brother's is the best Korean restaurant in the Bay Area, but that's not saying much. I'm spoiled from all the SoCal places, though. As for non-Korean, there's a really great crepes place called Ti Couz around 16th and Valencia (really close to the 15th and Market BART station) that serves Breton-style sweet and savory crepes as well as some pretty decent seafood. Next door (assuming it's still in business) is a cute tapas place called Picaro that serves the yummiest sangria ever. Great tapas without the cloying snobbiness at other places in SF. If you want to go extra-fancy, try Jardiniere (French) or Masa (fancy Mexican).
Have fun, lovebirds! ;)

Do you want fancy or not fancy? I highly recommend San Tung Dried Fried chicken wings and also their dumplings if you want cheap good food. It's near golden gate park.
A great website for good restaurant reviews is Check Please Bay Area. =)
Brother's (형재 갈비) is great too if you want Korean. =)

@ mary: hmmm, "check please bay area" . . . i think i've heard that somewhere. =P
*definitely going to try out "brothers" - gotten quite a lot of recs from my fellow SFers. but "san tung" sounds interesting (we don't get dried fried chicken here. =( )

Can someone explain the @ signs? Is this new blog lingo or is it a twitter feed thing?
Posted by: sbaw | Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 08:56 PM
@ sbwa: the "@" is to mark that you're commenting at someone specific. (i think it's a rollover from twitter and facebook.)
