Food is very important in my family. Whenever I tell people that my husband is a sushi chef, they say, "Lucky you - you must eat so well!" The fact of the matter is, that even if my husband is a kick-ass cook, he's never home for meals because he's off making sushi for other people. Five nights out of the week, Tae and I need to fend for ourselves for dinner.
But, I will say that when we do go out, my husband knows where to go and what to order. Last night, we went to check out the one Zagat-rated Japanese restaurant in our area. It was DE-licious!! It was one of the fusion-jungle-music-blasting Japanese restaurants where the waitstaff wore all black and the sushi chefs looked like ninjas. What took the cake though was this dish called the "alba-cado." It looked like a green apple, but it was really a giant ball of seared albacore wrapped in avocado. Before I could dig in to it, my husband and I spent a good 5 minutes inspecting it, trying to figure out how they got the avocado to wrap perfectly around the albacore. And once we dug in... it was heaven. I've had this thing for seared albacore ever since I was pregnant and had a craving for seared albacore (I wasn't even eating fish at the time). This was by far the best I've had in ages.
And tonight, it's back to my mainstay of macaroni and cheese. When I eat alone with Tae, I find myself eating what she eats - because she likes to feed me, even though she won't let me feed her, and also because whatever we're eating is always better off of my plate than hers.
