On Tuesday I was laid up with food poisoning which I suspect I got from a bad batch of kimchi. When I called my mom to tell her, she said, "I should think not. Food poisoning from kimchi? No. It must have been something else."

See, my mother shares the belief, like so many Koreans (and macrobiotic folk?), that fermented cabbage is a cure-all for everything. Even avian flu.
