this past weekend, my entire extended family converged in brooklyn, ny. there were a couple of reasons everyone was in town - some birthdays and some annual cemetary visits. when my family gets together, we are usually eating. this weekend was no exception. we had two big dinners in two different chinese restaurants in brooklyn's sunset park/chinatown. yum.
if you've walked through any chinatown, you've seen the roast ducks hanging in the window. tae saw these, and said, "DUCK!" sigh. my sister just told me that when we were little, she thought that chicken (the animal) and chicken (the food) were homonyms. i don't eat meat, and i don't know how to explain this to tae. she obviously also enjoys watching the fish in the fish tanks. does she recognize these as the same fish that ended up on our table? what does she think then about animal crackers?
what do your kids know about meat and animals?
