I get very nervous and uncomfortable by attention directed at me. (Yes this is weird considering I blog but I never said I wasn’t nuts.) So my first post here is an attempt at deflection.

I have two congratulations/advertisements in regards to two (Korean) high school friends:
Jieho Lee, an up-and-coming director and more importantly, one of the nicest guys I know, recently debuted his film—for which he directed and co-wrote the script—The Air I Breathe, at Tribeca Film Festival. I’ve been bugging him about its nationwide release date which is still TBD. I’m sure you’ll hear about it as it’s been well-received thus far and stars several heavyweights such as Forest Whitaker, Brendan Fraser, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kevin Bacon and fellow Asians Kelly Hu and John Cho. (I’m dropping names here because I’m especially lame and he’s especially cool with access to, you know, celebrities.)
Here is a plot summary, courtesy of IMDB:
A drama based on an ancient Chinese proverb that breaks life down into four emotional cornerstones: happiness, pleasure, sorrow and love. A businessman (Whitaker) bets his life on a horse race; a gangster (Fraser) sees the future; a pop star (Gellar) falls prey to a crime boss (Garcia); a doctor (Bacon) must save the love of his life.
Jieho’s a fellow Korean, so show some love! Hopefully you will be seeing this movie soon in a theater near you. (I don’t think that’s the official poster but JL, your movie already has some crazy serious fans with access to Photoshop.)
I also just found out he and his wife are with child, so congratulations are in order. Congratulations! The last time I saw Jieho was at my wedding, seven years ago, which is way too long ago. Before that, I saw him walking the streets of Cambridge looking lost and disheveled on his way to class at Harvard Business School. POSEUR!

Another congratulations go to The Ss, who just had a beautiful baby boy. Look how happy he is already! I went to high school with Pops but in fact, Mama is a much-loved honorary alumna amongst our class so sorry Pops—that’s what happens when you marry one of the cool ones; when we see you, we ask, “Hey S, good to see you. So where’s E?”
Mama is also the gorgeous and talented co-owner/-designer (along with her sisters) of Airess, a fashion label based in NY. The Airess clothing line is sexy, elegant, and so sumptuous you want to eat them. I mean, look at this:
If my buttocks and abs looked like that I would totally be wearing this while vacuuming the crumbs off our floor. Alas, they do not look like that. So here is my second fave:
I covet. Love the new collection, E. Simply gorgeous.
Mama and Pops are Korean as well, so again, spread the love! From Mama: “We do special orders through the studio, and sell to specialty stores like FredSegal/Ron Herman in LA.”
Airess’ website shows their latest collection. Please check them out, and not just because they are Korean, but because their clothes are just lovely.

Despite the fact that I know some cool people, this is just an obvious move on my part to make myself look cooler, as evidenced by my proclivity for namedropping. Don’t hold this against them. They are sincerely good people with obvious talent.
