Do you watch Korean Dramas? Do you have a favorite?
During jr. high and high school, I used to watch Korean Dramas with my family. It was a ritual for my dad to go to the local Korean video store and swap the watched episodes with the latest released episodes. I grew up in So. Cal so there was an abundance of these video stores. We had those re-winding machines because the store wanted you to rewind them before returning and also because rewinding them in the VCR was "bad" for the VCR.
Anyway, my all time favorite drama is Sandglass. Called Mo-Rae-Shi-Gae in Korean, the more correct translation would be "Hourglass." Mo-rae means sand and shi-gae means watch/clock so I think that's how Sandglass came about. I ordered the DVD set a while go as a present for my husband to help him learn Korean... and also for myself because I wanted to watch this series again!

Sandglass is about friendship and love. It also weaves in a lot of modern Korean history and even has real footage of the "Gwan-ju incident" where the government open fires on protesting civilians.
The first time I watched this, I was back at home from college during summer break. My cousin got me started on it and I stayed up the ENTIRE night finishing it. I cried my eyes out because there are some SAD SAD scenes in it. After all, what's a Korean drama without something tragic and sad happening in it?
Some other Korean dramas that I've enjoyed are:
Jil-too (Jealousy)
Fullhouse
What happened in Bali
Autumn story
My name is Kim Sam Soon
I haven't watched any recently though... no time with the job, kid, and household to run... and given my addictive personality, I'd probably stay up all night to finish the series!
I've heard some people say that Korean dramas are a waste of time or that many Korean ajummas waste too many hours watching them. Some single Korean guys I know also say that single Korean women who watch a lot of Korean dramas have an unrealistic view of how a boyfriend/husband should be. Must be tall, handsome, rich, and be able to stay by your side for 3 days straight as you lay sick in a hospital. =)
Oh, and the funniest thing is that at my old job, my female Chinese American co-workers knew more about Korean dramas than I did!
So, what your opinion of Korean dramas? Love em? Hate em? Got a favorite?
