Before there was Kimchi Mamas or Rice Daddies or Angry Asian Man or even blogs period, there was KoreAm Journal. It's been around for eighteen years - it's covered everything from the 1992 Los Angeles race riots (aka sa-i-gu) to the rise of the Korean LPGA golfer to the evolving landscape of Hollywood for Asian Americans.
And now it needs our help.
Like the rest of print journalism, KoreAm Journal has fallen on hard times. Sure, we could let it fall by the wayside along with a bunch of other ethnic and independent magazines. But this is our magazine. When you look at the mainstream media and wonder why our stories aren't being covered, how much worse will it be if KoreAm Journal isn't there to cover them? When you get angry about them over-emphasizing the race and immigration status of a school shooter, how much worse would it have been if KoreAm Journal didn't make sure that the MSM's response was given coverage? When you're disappointed that you have nowhere to look to find the latest and greatest Korean American musicians, actors and artists, how much worse will it be when KoreAm Journal isn't doing it's regular "artist trax' feature anymore? How about coverage of the Korean American LGTB community? Or KAs hit by Hurricane Katrina?
I know we all have lots of bills to pay, kids to chase after and racist shmucks to rant about, but take a minute to consider subscribing (or renewing your subscription!) to KoreAm Journal or even donating to their Save KoreAm Journal campaign. You can do either with just a couple clicks here.
And spread the word...
