Back in the day, most Americans didn't know the difference between a Korean, a Japanese, and a Chinese person. "Korea? What's that? Oh, the Korean War! Yeah, I knew a guy who fought in that one!" But Koreans are now developing a reputation. And not just for nice TVs and disgraced scientists. The real news is about the kimchi. You thought Vietnamese pho was the en vogue Asian food? You thought wrong. It's all about the hot, spicy kimchi.
And so, in honor of our claim to fame, we Korean, part-Korean, and married-to-Korean mothers are officially launching this new blogging endeavor under the name Kimchi Mamas. Because what could be more appropriate for a bunch of hot and spicy women than the symbol of hotness and spiciness itself? So, without further ado, let me introduce our too hot to handle mammas of the moment:
Linda resides in Seattle, Washington and is mother to E, a 20 month old girl and a 6 months in utero baby boy. Both she and her hubby are full Korean and, while she loves all Korean foods, her favorites are seafood pajun and kalbi.
Weigook Saram lives in Long Beach, CA. Her daughter, K, is almost two and while she's a weigook saram, her husband is a 1.5 generation Korean American. Her favorite Korean foods are soon dubu and haemul pajun. She's a SAHM.
Stefania Pomponi Butler (aka CityMama) lives in San Francisco (but her heart currently resides in Portland, OR). She has two adorable daughters: 3 year 10 month old "Bunny" and 1 year 9 month old "Wallie". She's half (fourth generation!) Korean and half Italian. Her husband is Irish German with a little Mohawk thrown in. Her favorite Korean foods are icy mul naeng myun. She's also our resident professional blogger. When she's not blogging, she's cooking, reading perezhilton.com, and thinking about working out.
Irene Nam was born and bred in Paris, France. She's got 4 year old twin boys (!!) Sean and Will. She and her husband are Korean, but she was born and raised in Paris. Her favorite Korean foods are mul naeng myun and kalbi and bulgogi.
Twizzle, who is half Korean, lives in Oakland, CA with her daughter "Honeybee" and her husband, who is Scottish/Canadian. Her favorite Korean food is mandu and she works as a fundraiser for the visual and cinematic arts.
Delia H. lives in Riverside, CA and her daughter's name is Tae, age 19 months. She's a 3rd generation Chinese American and her husband is a 2nd generation Korean American. Her favorite Korean food is dol sot bibimbap. When she's not blogging (or parenting, or taking care of the house or going to school), she's a higher education administrator. She gets paid to hang out with Asian American college students.
I'm Nina and I live in Santa Monica, CA with my new son Caius, 4 months, and my husband Charlie. I'm half 2nd generation Korean, half English/Dutch (or white, whatever you like) and Charlie's a 2nd generation Korean. I love suk ju namul and kalbi. When I'm not blogging or being Caius's mom, I'm trying to graduate from college and watching Gilmore Girls.
We're so excited to be launching Kimchi Mamas and we hope you like it!
